The situation in eastern Ukraine is also getting worse and worse! The fighting has increased further.
People are seeking shelter from the rockets in their basements. Water, gas and electricity supplies have been destroyed in many places and food is becoming scarce.
The infrastructure has collapsed. Almost no one has work or can withdraw money from a bank.
In the meantime, our staff had to leave the spiritual center in Galizinovka (near Donetsk) because the shelling in the region became too heavy. Especially at night, there is heavy fighting in the surrounding area.
We hope that the buildings will remain intact and that work can resume there at some point.
In the eastern Ukrainian town of Gorskoe (Lugansk region), which is close to the front line with the occupied territory, the local community is facing a major challenge: refugees who have fled the surrounding villages due to intensified fighting need shelter and must be provided for.
Since the church does not have a basement where people can seek safety, brothers and sisters have personally opened their homes and taken them in. In the rooms of the congregation, church services are currently still offered and pastoral care is provided. The rooms are also being used for our projects in the region. Today several brothers and sisters packed 130 food packages for the sponsored children in the region. Despite the tense and dangerous situation, they took the packages to the families who are in particular need of food supplies.
In Prokrovsk (Donetsk region), our employees met people who had nothing to eat for days. The bakery of a local worker is currently producing 1700 loaves of bread a day in order to be able to give food to such and other needy people. Since wheat is also becoming scarce, they are currently trying to buy up leftover stock from a bakery factory that no longer has a gas supply.
The bread is being distributed to people all over the area by our staff.
“In Avdeevka (on the front line near Donetsk) there has been no water supply for a week. However, our local community has a well. We collect water in barrels and deliver them to people. In addition, anyone can come to the community and take water. We have now also connected two water taps in the yard.”
