Refugees in Moldova | Helen

Two days before the fighting started, I flew from Switzerland to Moldova.  As a member of the board, I had planned to visit our projects on the ground and meet with our team there, whom are doing a great service. But everything has changed and now I am trying to help with all my strength here.
License plates from Ukraine can be seen in Moldova more every day because many are wanting to flee to here or Romania.  Now all of the employees of HTO (Hoffnungsträger Ost) are trying to help these people.  The highest priority for us are the people who have no car, no money and/or no foreign relations. There are so many people here who need help.  The sad thing is that most of the men are not allowed to leave Ukraine because they are drafted.  But many still try to get across the border and are separated from their families there.  I have already heard some sad stories that have been very emotional and have hit me very hard. Most of them arrive with only one suitcase.  They had to leave everything else behind. Since they are mostly women and children, I can relate well – despite the language barrier.  There are always opportunities to “talk”. My task is different every day.  Simply helping where it is needed. I support Eduard our leader in Moldova where I can, and pass on the love of God to the people and serve them. Yesterday I moved out of the house where I was staying (the guest house of HTO) because there are now 28 other refugees: a married couple and 26 Ukrainian students.  Where I am staying now are 10 beds. There are already six refugees living here and tomorrow eleven more will join them.  Tomorrow the first six will move to acquaintances in Chisinau and stay there. Since the airspace over Moldova is now closed, I will not be able to fly home and will have to go back by car.  Before that, I will continue to help and support the people. Please pray for the refugees, but also for all the staff who are trying to help the people non-stop at the moment. Helen Schoch, Board Member Switzerland
